Anyone else finding it hard to make friends on campus?

Everyone seems to have found their group already, even though term only started recently. I talk to people in class, but the conversation ends when class ends.

How do you get from knowing someone’s name to actually hanging out without making it awkward?

Most of those “groups” are less established than they look. Ask one person if they want coffee before the next class or if they want to compare notes. A specific small invitation is easier to answer than “we should hang out sometime.”

Go somewhere repeatedly. same club, same library floor, same part-time shift, whatever. Friendship for me came from seeing the same people 10 times, not one magical orientation event.

This was true for me too. Repeated contact removes a lot of pressure because every conversation does not need to become a friendship immediately.

Also, invite people even if you have been turned down once. They may genuinely have class or work.

I think I was waiting for a whole group to adopt me, which is probably not a plan. I’ll ask the person next to me if they want coffee before Thursday’s lecture and try one club that meets every week.

And dont read too much into people looking busy. I made one of my closest friends because she asked if the seat was free and then complained about the printer. Extremely glamorous beginning lol.
